The auditorium at the Department of Veterans Affairs Tennessee Valley Healthcare System's Murfreesboro Campus was transformed into a barrel of laughs December 3, 2010 as comedians from the Nashville area volunteered their time to entertain Veterans.

Comedians "Jonnie W.", Brian "B-Cov" Covington and Renard Hirsch performed standup comedy for the Veterans of TVHS.  The comedians were happy to help with entertaining these special individuals and staff at the medical facility.

"I never served, but I am really in awe for someone who would risk their lives for others," said comedian Jonnie W. "I have visited Veteran homes before, but I have never had the chance to actually do a show exclusively for Veterans."

The benefit was aimed to bring humor to the long-term care patients at TVHS community living centers, and according to TVHS Assistant Chief of Voluntary Service Tony Stevens, "This is the beginning of the holiday season and we wanted to start the season with some laughs. The Veterans were pleased with the event, it really provided something different for them. Instead of staying on their units, they had the chance to get out and be entertained."

The event provided some insight and perspective for the comedians on the need for more people to volunteer their talents or just their time to make a hospitalized Veteran’s day a little better.

"I think it is so easy to think about casualties of war, but when a war ends there are still people who need care and also need entertainment," said Jonnie W.  "This helped me remember that some people don’t get to go back to what they thought was a normal life because of what happened to them during their service."
