PGY1 Residents

 

Bryan Figler, Pharm.D

Dr. Figler was born and raised in West Palm Beach, FL. He attended the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL for undergraduate studies, completing a B.S. in Biomedical Sciences. He remained a USF Bull for the completion of his Doctorate of Pharmacy at the USF College of Pharmacy. During his time at USF COP, he was involved with both University leadership and student organizations. He was elected as a University Senator representing the College of Pharmacy during the 51st congressional term. Bryan served two years on the USF Health Student Leadership Counsel, where he worked with students from other health colleges to improve campus resources. He also served two years as COP Class of 2019 President and one year as Vice-President. During pharmacy school, he found passion in serving the underserved through involvement with the Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA). He helped lead SNPhA locally as President-elect, President, and nationally as a member of the 2018-2019 Executive Board serving as National Vice-President. In his free time, Bryan enjoys playing instruments, including guitar and bass guitar, and exploring the Nashville area. After completing his PGY1 residency, he plans to pursue a PGY2 position in psychiatry and eventually a career as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist within the VA system.

Olivia Pardue, Pharm.D.

Dr. Olivia Pardue was born and raised in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Centre College in Danville, Kentucky and went on to receive her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. During her time at Belmont, she was actively involved in many student organizations including APhA-ASP, ASHP-SSHP, CPNP, the Rho Chi Honors Society, the Tennessee Pharmacy Association, Kappa Psi, and served as Vice-President of Community Engagement and Vice-President of Membership Services of the Belmont Student Pharmacist Alliance. In her free time, Olivia enjoys exploring the outdoors with her German Shepherd, Harper, cheering on the Tennessee Titans with her fiancé, and spending time with her friends, family, and co-residents. Upon completion of her PGY-1 residency, she plans to pursue a PGY-2 position in ambulatory care or psychiatry. Olivia is excited for the opportunity to serve the Veterans at TVHS and is looking forward to all she will learn during her PGY-1 experience!

Lauren McCarthy, Pharm.D.

Dr. McCarthy was born and raised in Bridgeport, WV. She attended West Virginia University for two years of undergraduate studies before receiving her Pharm.D. from West Virginia University College of Pharmacy. During her time at WVU she was involved in many organizations including APhA-ASP, ASHP, ACCP, Rho Chi, Phi Lambda Sigma, and Kappa Psi. She served as president of Rho Chi, Vice president of Phi Lambda Sigma, secretary of ACCP, and Generation Rx co-chair of APhA. Additionally, she was a VALOR pharmacy intern at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center for two years. She completed a 5 week rotation in Cape Town, SA throughout her fourth year of pharmacy school, where she had the opportunity to promote clinical pharmacy in a unique healthcare system.  Upon completion of her PGY-1 residency, she plans to pursue a PGY-2 in ambulatory care. Eventually, she would like to obtain a position as a clinical pharmacy specialist in a primary care clinic. Outside of pharmacy, Dr. McCarthy enjoys water skiing, hiking, traveling, and cheering on the Pittsburgh Penguins. 

Victoria Viverette, Pharm.D.

Dr. Viverette was born and raised in Eastern North Carolina, in Rocky Mount, NC.  She completed both her undergraduate degree in Biology as well as her Pharm.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During her time at UNC, she was actively involved in many student organizations including the Carolina Association of Pharmacy Students, APhA-ASP, CPNP,  Phi Delta Chi, and Rho Chi. She served as co-chair of the GenerationRx chapter at UNC where she led medication take-back events with UNC's dental school, naloxone training for student pharmacists, and other outreach programs to educate the community about prescription misuse and medication safety. She plans to pursue a PGY-2 and ultimately become a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist within the VA. Her interests involve ambulatory care, pain management, and psychiatry.  Outside of pharmacy, Victoria likes to spend time with family and friends, travel to new places, and explore all Nashville has to offer!

Kimberly Ehrhard, Pharm.D.

Dr. Ehrhard was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. She attended the University of Missouri for three years of undergrad before going on to complete her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Missouri – Kansas City. During her years in pharmacy school, she was involved in multiple organizations including Rho Chi Honors Society, SSHP, and Kappa Psi. Additionally, she helped to develop the CPNP Collegiate Chapter at her campus and served as the first Chapter President as well as created the initiative Operation Self Care through her local APhA-ASP Chapter focusing on mental health awareness.  After completion of her PGY-1 Residency, Dr. Ehrhard hopes to pursue PGY-2 training in Psychiatric Pharmacy and develop a career as a clinical pharmacy specialist. In her free time, she enjoys hiking the Appalachian Trail, trying new food around Nashville, and hanging out with her cat.

Kate Rogers, Pharm.D.

Dr. Kate M.L. Rogers was born and raised in Fowlerville, Michigan. She attended undergrad at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Health Science she enlisted in the U.S. Army. During her three and a half years in the Army she served as a paralegal in the JAG Corps. Shortly after serving a nine-month deployment in Afghanistan and being honorably discharged, she earned a Bachelor of Art in Biology from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. She completed her Pharm.D. at Wingate University School of Pharmacy in Wingate, North Carolina. While attending pharmacy school she served as student senate president and was actively involved in research and organizations such as ACCP, ASHP, APhA-ASP, SNPhA, and NCAP at the local and national level. In effort to help fellow veterans transition from military to civilian life she served as co-founder of Wingate’s Student Veterans of America. Upon completion of her PGY-1 residency, Kate plans to complete a PGY-2 and pursue a career as a clinical pharmacy specialist. Her current interests are in solid organ transplant and pain. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, being outdoors, cheering on her favorite Detroit sports teams, and fawning over her Bluetick Coonhound Olive and her two cats Lola and Ambush.

Kelci Dalton, Pharm.D.

Dr. Dalton is from Orlando, Florida. She attended the University of Central Florida for her undergraduate studies before receiving her Doctorate of Pharmacy from Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy in Nashville, TN. During her time at Lipscomb, Kelci was actively involved in many student organizations including Phi Lambda Sigma, the Rho Chi Honors Society, APhA-ASP, ASHP-SSHP, ACCP and the Tennessee Pharmacists Association. Kelci served as the president of the APhA-ASP chapter at Lipscomb University and on the regional level as the Midyear Regional Meeting Coordinator. Throughout pharmacy school, she worked as an intern at Williamson Medical Center in Franklin, TN where she was exposed to many areas of pharmacy. In her free time, Kelci enjoys traveling to new cities, finding new coffee shops, going on hikes and exploring the outdoors. After completion of her PGY-1 residency training, Dr. Dalton hopes to pursue PGY-2 training and ultimately a career as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist within the VA System. 

Nikki Sherwood, Pharm.D.

Dr. Sherwood was born and raised in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, near Kansas City. She attended University of Missouri-Columbia (MIZ!) for three years of undergraduate studies before receiving her Pharm.D. from University of Missouri-Kansas City College of Pharmacy.  While in pharmacy school, she was actively involved in many organizations including Rho Chi, Phi Lambda Sigma, Kappa Psi, SSHP, and APhA-ASP, for which she served as President.  Outside of pharmacy, Nikki enjoys exploring all that Nashville has to offer, baking, and spending time with friends, family, and the cutest Australian shepherd ever, Rudy. Upon completion of her PGY-1 residency, Nikki plans to pursue a PGY-2 and has interests in both cardiology and ambulatory care.

Current PGY2 Resident Biographies

Carli Smith, Pharm.D. – Ambulatory Care PGY2

Dr. Carli Smith was born and raised in Chestertown, MD. She graduated from the University of Maryland with a B.S. in Microbiology and went on to complete her Doctor of Pharmacy at Belmont University College of Pharmacy in Nashville, TN. While at Belmont University she was active in many school organizations including Phi Lambda Sigma, Rho Chi Honor Society, student ambassador for the College of Pharmacy, Tennessee Pharmacists Association, served as APhA-ASP Operation Heart committee chair, APhA-ASP Vice President of Patient Care, Recording Secretary and Membership Director of the Epsilon Kappa chapter of Kappa Psi. During pharmacy school, she worked as a pharmacy intern at Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she was exposed to many areas of pharmacy. Carli is currently one of the three pharmacy residents completing a PGY2 in Ambulatory Care. In her free time, Carli enjoys being outdoors, exploring the great perks of Nashville including the amazing eateries, watching football including the Baltimore Ravens and Tennessee Titans and spending time with her friends/family and amazing co-residents! Upon completion of her PGY2 residency, she hopes to continue working at a VA Medical Center in Primary Care. She couldn’t be more excited to continue serving Veterans here at TVHS. 

Haley Henry, Pharm.D., MBA– Ambulatory Care PGY2

Dr. Henry was born and raised in White House, Tennessee. She graduated from East Robertson High School in 2010 and from The University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry in 2014. She went on to complete dual Pharm.D. and MBA degrees at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center and University of Memphis, respectively. During her time at UTHSC, Haley was active in many organizations including APhA-ASP, SNPhA, Kappa Psi and acted as the President of the Rho Chi Academic Society. Haley also served on the curriculum planning committee and worked closely with administration and faculty members to develop new pharmacotherapy modules. After graduating from pharmacy school in 2014, she completed her PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency at the TVHS VA. Haley’s main pharmacy interests include ambulatory care, administration, and academia. Haley is looking forward to the opportunity to stay at TVHS to continue her career as a PGY-2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Resident. She is excited about managing her own Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) PharmD clinic, developing a drug-resistant hypertension clinic, and forming relationships with local colleges of pharmacy through the teaching certificate program. During her free time, Haley enjoys spending time with her husband, family, and friends and traveling to Knoxville to cheer on the Volunteers.

Matthew Olean, Pharm.D. -Ambulatory Care PGY2

Dr. Olean was born and raised in Lincoln, Rhode Island. He attended the University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy where he graduated with his Pharm.D. During his time at URI, he was involved in multiple student organizations including Kappa Psi, ASHP, SSHP, PLS, and NCPA for which he served as president. He represented URI at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Skills Competition, was a winner of the URI Health Disparities Awareness Day for his presentation on HIV/AIDS in the LGBTQIA Community and has been involved with multiple projects and presentations from organizations including the World Health Organization, Brown University, URI, Providence VA Medical Center and VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System. Matt is currently a PGY-2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Resident and hopes to pursue a career as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in primary care, pain management, and LGBTQ health. In his spare time, he plays rugby for the Nashville Grizzlies and spends time with his cat (from Hell), Iggy-Smalls.

Anna Drew Jackson, Pharm.D. – Cardiology PGY2

Dr. Jackson was born and raised in Winston-Salem, NC. She received her B.S. in Exercise Science from the University of South Carolina and went on to receive her Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in Chapel Hill, NC. During her time at UNC, she was actively involved in many student organizations including Phi Delta Chi, Rho Chi, Phi Lambda Sigma, Student Government, Recruitment Ambassadors and the Carolina Association of Pharmacy Students. Additionally, she was a VALOR pharmacy intern at the Durham VA Medical Center for two years. She completed her PGY1 at the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System and is currently completing a PGY2 in Cardiology. After graduation from residency, she will be getting married and plans to move to San Antonio, TX to be with her husband. She hopes to continue her career within the VA system as a clinical pharmacy specialist with an emphasis in managing cardiovascular disease states!

Bekki Burch, Pharm.D. – Pain PGY2

Dr. Burch is from Jacksonville, Florida. She attended the University of North Florida for her undergraduate studies before receiving her Doctorate of Pharmacy from Belmont University College of Pharmacy in Nashville, TN. During her time at Belmont, Bekki was actively involved in many student organizations including Phi Lambda Sigma, the Rho Chi Honors Society, APhA-ASP, ASHP-SSHP, CPNP, the Tennessee Pharmacist Association,  and SNPhA and acted as the president of the Belmont Student Pharmacist Alliance. Throughout pharmacy school, she worked as an intern at Rolling Hills Hospital in Franklin, TN. She completed her PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at TVHS and is excited to be staying at TVHS for a second year as a PGY-2 Pain Management and Palliative Care Pharmacy Resident. In her free time, she enjoys reading, crafting, and exploring the outdoors with her husband and golden retriever, Molli.  Upon completion of her PGY-2 residency, she looks forward to pursuing a position as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, ideally within  the VA system. She is humbled to have this opportunity to continue to serve the veterans here at TVHS and is excited about all she will learn in the year ahead.  

Carla Figura, Pharm.D. – Pain PGY2

Dr. Figura was born and raised in Palm Bay, FL. She attended the University of Florida for three years of undergraduate studies where she studied biology and cheered on the Florida Gators with University of Florida Competitive Cheerleading. After three years of undergraduate studies, she began her PharmD Curriculum at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy. During pharmacy school, Dr. Figura was involved in many student organizations, the most memorable being the International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation and APhA-ASP. She served on the International Standing Committee as National Contact Person for APhA-ASP, and got to attend IPSF World Congresses in India and Zimbabwe.  After completion of her PGY-1 Residency training with TVHS, Dr. Figura is now pursuing her PGY-2 training here at TVHS in Pain Management and Palliative Care. Her ultimate goal is to find a career as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist within the VA System. In her free time, she enjoys running, reading, crafting, and snuggling her two cats, Scamper and Flo.

Monica Barrett, Pharm.D., MBA -Psychiatry PGY2

Dr. Barrett was born and raised in Murfreesboro, TN. She attended Union University for two years of undergraduate studies before receiving her Pharm.D. from Union University College of Pharmacy. She was actively involved in many student organizations including APhA-ASP, TPA-TSSP, SSHP, SCCP, CPFI, Rho Chi, and Phi Lambda Sigma,  while at Union University. Monica completed her PGY-1 residency at TVHS and is currently completing a PGY-2 in psychiatric pharmacy. Upon completion of her PGY-2 residency, Monica plans to pursue a career as a mental health clinical pharmacy specialist or a career in academia. She currently serves on committees for TPA and TSHP and is passionate about involvement in pharmacy organizations. In her spare time, Monica enjoys baking, crafting, and bargain shopping.

Austin Smith, Pharm.D. -Psychiatry PGY2

Dr. Smith is from Liberty, Missouri, near Kansas City. She completed her undergraduate studies and Pharm.D. degree at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. While in pharmacy school, she held many leadership positions including Student Pharmacy Director for the Magis Clinic, a student-run clinic for the homeless, and Rho Chi Chapter Secretary. She also served on the ASHP-SSHP executive board and completed a research fellowship focusing on topics including medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder and naloxone training for pharmacists. During pharmacy school, she worked at Hy-Vee Pharmacy.  Austin is currently completing a PGY-2 in psychiatry. Some of her interest areas include substance use disorders and inpatient psychiatry. In her spare time, she enjoys trying new restaurants and exploring the Nashville area!
