Tennessee Valley Healthcare System
TVHS supports homeless Veterans through wellness
More than 140 community members and TVHS staff participated in the annual VA2K event.
For the 11th consecutive year, Tennessee Valley Healthcare System rocked the annual VA2K Walk and Roll event. The VA2K is a two-kilometer walk that aims to promote employee wellness while raising awareness and donations for local homeless Veterans.
This year, there were more than 140 participants who joined the cause. Some notable attendees were Jennifer Vedral-Baron, TVHS health system director and two congressional aides for Senator Marsha Blackburn. Typically, VA2K is hosted at the Nashville and Murfreesboro campuses, however, this year the event was held at all TVHS sites to allow everyone a chance to get active. Most attendees walked the VA2K, but several participated at home by walking, gardening, or biking. Other employees participated virtually by doing yoga, tai chi, and dance workout with Whole Health.
“I really enjoyed it,” one participant said. “More importantly the cause is so worthy. The employees that assisted were very kind, and the entertainment was amazing. The musician was spot on! I will definitely participate again. This has also made me more cognizant of bringing more donations throughout the year.”
TVHS Voluntary Service collected multiple items, which totaled $4,167. This was double last year’s VA2K donations. Murfreesboro restaurant Primrose Table donated $2,300 to the TVHS Homeless Program. TVHS looks forward to hosting the 12th annual VA2K in May 2022.
