TVHS to host intimate partner violence assistance awareness event - The Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) will observe Domestic Violence Awareness Month by hosting its third annual Expressive Arts as Medicine symposium. This year’s event will be at the Holy Trinity Community Church, 6727 Charlotte Pike, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, October 26. The mission of the Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) Assistance Program is to provide a comprehensive person-centered, recovery-oriented assistance program for Veterans, their families and caregivers, and VA employees who experience intimate partner violence. TVHS seeks participants, volunteers for Veterans Day parade - The Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) will honor the residents of its Community Living Centers and all Veterans with a parade Saturday, November 10th at 11 a.m. at its Alvin C. York campus at 3400 Lebanon Road. TVHS needs the help of groups, clubs and individuals to participate in the parade as well as volunteers to help with event logistics, spectator safety, and various other tasks. (10/05/2018)

End of fiscal year TVHS Star rating shows large improvement in overall quality of services - As part of the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) efforts to remain transparent and hold VA facilities accountable, VA released its end of fiscal year 2018 (FY2018) hospital Star ratings, which evaluate and benchmark quality of care delivery at VA medical centers (VAMCs) across the nation. Tennessee Valley Healthcare System’s Nashville facility and the Alvin C. York facility in Murfreesboro were among the facilities that made positive strides in the benchmarks and is striving to continue progress. Both Nashville and York facilities improved from a 1 Star rating to a 2 Star rating. (10/03/2018)

Annual VA report shows TVHS facilities improved over past year in services provided to Veterans - Using an annual web-based report scorecard that measures, evaluates and benchmarks quality and efficiency at its medical centers, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) recently released data that showed significant improvements at the majority of its health care facilities. VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System supports Hurricane Florence relief efforts - Two members of the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) team departed for Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, Sept. 20 to support the Durham VA Medical Center in the wake of Hurricane Florence. Shannon Anderson, a registered nurse, and Dana Franklin, a licensed clinical social worker, will spend at least 14 days providing backfill support for Durham VA staff. (09/20/2018)

VA to host second annual women Veterans event - VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) is hosting its second annual Women Veterans Wellness Event from 9:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22. VA offers workshop for clergy who support Veterans - TVHS chaplains will host a Helping Our Veterans Heal workshop Thursday, September 20 at the New Vision Baptist Church, 1750 North Thompson Lane. Members of the clergy are a critical point of contact for Veterans. Nashville Veteran participates in National Disabled Sports Clinic - Charles “Chuck” Baldinger, a local Veteran with an incredible story, is participating in the 32nd National Disabled Winter Sports Clinic, April 1 to 6 in Aspen-Snowmass, Colo. VA doctors offer screening, treatment for hepatitis C virus - VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System doctors want to increase Veterans’ awareness of an 8-12-week therapy for the hepatitis C virus. Unlike older treatments, these medications have minimal side effects and often can be taken as a single pill once a day. A simple blood test can determine if a Veteran needs the treatment. TVHS offers class for separating service members - TVHS offers an Introduction to Whole Health class designed for Veterans who have or will soon separate from the military. TVHS earns patient safety award - The Tennessee Valley Healthcare System has earned the VA National Center for Patient Safety (NCPS) 2017 Gold Cornerstone Recognition. Tennessee Valley Healthcare System: “We accept that challenge.” - On Feb. 1, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced an aggressive new approach to produce rapid improvements at VA medical facilities which received the lowest score in its Strategic Analytics for Improvement and Learning (SAIL) rating system. New instrument delivers quicker diagnoses, better care to Veterans - This month, VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) doctors rolled out a new method to detect infectious agents in Veterans’ blood. The newly-acquired BioFire Blood Culture Identification (BCID) system allows TVHS doctors to detect harmful microorganisms in blood samples in just a few hours after blood cultures become positive. TVHS Nashville intensive care unit earns award - The Beacon Award for Excellence recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment Standards. Units that achieve this three-year, three-level award with a gold, silver or bronze designation meet national criteria consistent with Magnet Recognition, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and the National Quality Healthcare Award.
